Ian has worked closley with Karl Holtey and views Karl as the finest Planemaker in the world today. Ians aim is to be as focused and passionate about his work as he has seen from Karl. Ian’s background is that of electrical and mechanical engineering and his hobby consisted of woodworking. The combination of the two have led him into the fine Art of planemaking. |
My current project is a small batch of 98's. These are done in stainless and are quite complicated and very labour intensive to do... Being honest the amount of man hours involved in creating these planes make it a difficult plane to put a price on, but the reason I do them is it's one of my favourite looking planes and it'll never rust. I am trying to work to very fine tolerances and this in istelf is a challenge. Over the last while I have noticed within my own work that I'm getting a lot more fussy and can nit pick flaws that before I would have just ignored. My engineering abilities are improving leaps and bounds due to getting better quality machinery and also need to thank Karl for his directness and advice. Materials have now arrived for the sides so I can now resume in getting them finished, hopefully by mid-July. I will post pictures of the finished planes..... Your feedback will be appreciated. |
